Six killed in lightning in MP

BHOPAL, Feb 17: Lightning and hailstorm claimed six lives in Madhya Pradesh and caused extensive damage to crops in several divisions of the State last night.
Two persons identified as Manaram and Raju were killed in Rajgarh district’s Kesariyab village when lightning struck them while two others sustained injuries, officials said.
Three persons identified as Gomtibai, Muniem Kondar and Premi Kondar were killed in Ajaygarh tehsil of Panna district while a tribal identified as Paramlal was killed at Sarkheda village in Sagar district after being struck by lightning.
Crops have been affected in Indore, Gwalior, Chambal and Bhopal divisions.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed concerned officers to immediately conduct surveys to assess damage to crops from hailstorm.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj also spoke to collectors of Dewas and Raisen on the issue and they assured her that they would conduct survey of the damaged crops immediately and provide compensation to the affected farmers, the officials said.
Farmers in Rajgarh district staged a road-blockade as no official had reached there after the hailstorm to assess the damage. (PTI)
