This has reference to the news item ‘Will ensure speedy probe in black money issue’ DE May 29.
It is a good decision on the part of newly formed Central Government to constitute Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate black money. Black money has been one of the BJP core electoral ralling points. This issue was first raised by former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani a few years ago. The issue generated much debate throughout the country. Besides Opposition parties, people like spiritual guru Ramdev too launched a scathing attack on the Central Government to get back money stashed in foreign countries. The matter was even taken up by the Supreme Court of India. Though the previous Government adopted a dilly-dallying tactics on the issue, the Supreme Court kept the issue alive by directing the Government to set up the SIT.
Hope the SIT constituted under the supervision of former Supreme Court Judge Justice MD Shah will succeed in the task. It has been reported that India’s black economy is work $500 billion and $1.4 trillion. A staggering sum indeed.
