LEH, July 23: The first convocation ceremony of Sindhu Central University was held with grandeur at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of the institution.
As per a statement, fourteen students from various disciplines were conferred with degrees during the ceremony in the presence of prominent dignitaries and academic leaders.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Professor Sachin S Gunthe, Member of the Academic Council, who acknowledged the achievements of the students and the collective efforts of the university community.
The convocation underscored Sindhu Central University’s growing stature in the academic landscape of Ladakh, especially due to its associations with IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur.
Chairman of the Executive Council, Prof V Kamakoti, presented the university’s annual report, tracing the institution’s development, key milestones, and strategic partnerships.
He highlighted the introduction of new academic schools, infrastructural growth, and the challenges faced during the establishment phase.
Prof Kamakoti also expressed gratitude to the Public Works and Public Health Engineering Departments for facilitating critical infrastructure in a timely and sustainable manner.
Chief Secretary of Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal, who attended the event as chief guest, delivered the convocation address.
He reflected on the historical and cultural importance of the name “Sindhu,” rooted in the region’s civilizational heritage.
Dr Kotwal emphasized the ecological sensitivity of Ladakh and praised the University for launching academic programs aligned with the national vision of carbon neutrality.
He also underlined the role of research institutions like DIHAR, the University of Ladakh, and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences in building a robust knowledge base in the region.
He expressed optimism about the university’s future campus serving as a hub for academic and research excellence in sustainable living, renewable energy, and mountain ecology.
Degrees were formally awarded by Prof Kamakoti amid applause and celebration.
The event witnessed participation from several dignitaries, including Executive Councillor of Academic Council of SCU, Anil Sahasrabudhe; Himanshi Rai from IIM Indore, Ramanand Pandey, Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University; Bhanu Prabha, Administrative Secretary for Education; Nageshwar Rao, former VC of Indira Gandhi National Open University; Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Director General of Police, Ladakh; Tsering Angchuk, Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh; Vice Chancellor of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies; Romil Singh Donk, Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Shruti Arora, SSP Leh and other dignitaries.
