Sikh body demands fresh probe into Chattisinghpora massacre

SRINAGAR, Mar 20: The All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today demanded a fresh probe into the 2000 Chattisinghpora massacre, asserting that justice continues to elude the victims’ families even after nearly three decades.
On the eve of the massacre anniversary, APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina urged the Government to reopen investigations and allow the Justice Pandian Commission to further probe the case, stating that the Chattisinghpora and Brakpora killings are “deeply interlinked.”
Raina said that despite the passage of 28 years, the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir continues to wait for justice. “The Government must identify and punish the real culprits instead of relying on unsubstantiated claims,” he said.
APSCC said that successive probes have failed to unravel the truth behind the killings, leaving the case shrouded in mystery. It warned that continued inaction would amount to “grave injustice” to the Sikh community of Kashmir.
The Committee also recalled assurances made by former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, who had promised swift action and justice following the massacre. “Those promises remain unfulfilled to this day,” it said, urging both the Union Territory administration and the Centre to take immediate steps for a transparent and credible reinvestigation.
