JAMMU, Apr 29: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) Jammu has arrested a key accused in a major drug smuggling case linked to the recovery of 33 kilograms of heroin.
Harjit Singh of Kasel in Tarn Taran district of Punjab was arrested from Punjab, a statement issued by SIA said.
It said the accused played a crucial role in connecting two other accused-Amritpal Singh alias Fouji, who is already in custody, and Amritpal Singh Baath, the suspected kingpin of the syndicate and currently believed to be abroad.
Baath is also alleged to be associated with the proscribed outfit Khalistan Zindabad Force, the statement said.
Quoting the investigators, the statement further said that Harjit Singh used his shop as a base to help build and operate this illegal drug network.
“On his assurance, Amritpal alias Fouji joined the group and collected heroin consignments from the border areas in Jammu. These were later handed over to associates of Amritpal Baath in Punjab,” the statement said.
“The arrest of Harjit Singh will help unravel the larger network and its links to cross-border drug and terror operations,” it said.
Meanwhile, further investigations are underway as more arrests are expected in the case.
