“Once the matter came to our notice, our women’s wing got in touch with the police as well as the girl’s family. The youth president met the SSP in Leh and raised concerns in this case. The girl was identified in Srinagar and brought back to Ladakh by the Ladakh police,” he said, adding that the investigation is underway and requested the public not to be misled by rumours.
Lakrook added that he has also spoken to leaders in Kargil district, asking them to condemn such incidents and to discourage inter-religious marriages so that the communal harmony of Ladakh is not affected.
Meanwhile, LBA Sham branch president Tsering Norbu refuted allegations that the LBA was not doing enough in such cases. He informed that LBA president Chering Dorjay and LBA Women’s Wing President Kunzes Dolma have been extending support since the case surfaced. To prevent such incidents in the future, he suggested that an anti-conversion law should be introduced to maintain communal harmony.
