JAMMU, Nov 1: Shopkeepers at the city’s Gummat Bazar today staged a protest demonstration against a drive launched by the Traffic Police against the wrong parking of the vehicle.
The protest erupted soon after a team of Traffic Police lifted certain motorcycles and vehicles parked either on the footpaths or on the road in violation of the road safety norms.
Irked over the police action, the protestors, mostly shopkeepers, gathered outside their shops in large numbers and blocked the vehicular movement on the road for around 45 minutes.
They burnt tyres to express their anger over the drive, claiming the Traffic Police didn’t warn them before launching the drive.
However, to control the situation, a DySP ranked officer of the Traffic Police, along with other concerned police officers, reached at the site and told the protestors that they had been warned several times before the action.
After discussions and further warnings to avoid encroachments of footpaths and roads, the protest was called off.
