Shopian police secure 3 convictions under New Criminal Laws

SRINAGAR, Nov 6: In a major step towards effective implementation of the New Criminal Laws (NCL), District Police Shopian has secured convictions in three criminal cases registered at different police stations of the district.
With these successful trials, the police have reinforced their commitment to justice, accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law under the reformed legal framework.
According to officials, convictions have been awarded in three cases under various provisions of the NCL. The Investigating Officers pursued the cases professionally, while the prosecution teams ensured successful conduct of trials, resulting in substantial sentences to the accused as per the new legal provisions.
The cases include FIR Number 90/2024 registered at Police Station Zainapora under Sections 281, 125, 324(3) of BNS and Sections 4/181, 5/180 of the Motor Vehicle Act; FIR Number 34/2025 at Police Station Heerpora under Sections 281, 125(b) and 324(3) of BNS; and FIR Number 40/2025 at Police Station Zainapora under Section 329(3) of BNS.
The district police said these convictions are a significant milestone in adapting to the New Criminal Laws, and will act as a deterrent against unlawful activities. The outcomes, they added, are a result of diligent investigation and effective prosecution to ensure justice under the new system.
