Srinagar, June 6: Police today suspended a Station House Officer (SHO) for not informing the higher authorities about the alleged stalking and slashing the ear of a minor girl in Kulgam district of South Kashmir and arrested seven accused persons in this connection.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior: “We have arrested seven person and seized a vehicle in connection with the incident in Dooru area of Verinag in Kulgam district.”
“The officer said the Station House Officer of the area, where the incident took place, has been placed under suspension pending an enquiry. He didn’t report to the higher authorities about the incident and gave wrong information to the media”, the DIG said.
According to the FIR lodged by the family of the victim, a group of boys stalked girls who were on a school picnic to Pahalgam tourist resort yesterday and followed them till they returned their native area of Dooru, 80 kms from here, last night.
As the girls were alighting from the bus, the youth, travelling in a Van, passed some lewd remarks at the girls.
An altercation ensued between the youth and the girls leading to a scuffle and the accused then slashed an ear of the victim, who has been hospitalised in Srinagar.
A police officer said while a case of eve teasing has been registered, efforts are on to ascertain the cause of injuries to the victim.
He said once the medical report is received, appropriate sections of Penal Code will be added to the FIR.
