JAMMU, May 11: Police today arrested SHO Khour police station Sub Inspector Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta for raping a girl in custody inside the SHO’s room at police station after the girl lodged a written complaint and her statement under Section 164 CrPC was recorded before the Munsiff Akhnoor.
Police said the girl had gone missing with her boy friend about six months back. Few days later, both had surrendered before Khour police station saying they were adults and have solemnized the marriage.
However, during custody, the SHO with the help of a female SPO took the girl to her room inside Khour police station and raped her.
Even after the rape, the SHO continued to harass the girl. She used to ask the girl to meet her again.
The girl yesterday approached the SDPO Akhnoor with written complaint, who got her statement recorded before the Munsiff Akhnoor under Section 164 CrPC. Thereafter, a case was registered against the SHO, who was arrested under Section 376 and 109 RPC in FIR No. 45/2016 registered at Khour police station.
Police said the female SPO, who had helped the SHO in rape, has been detained for questioning.
Further investigations were in the progress.
Meanwhile, the SHO has been placed under suspension.
Meanwhile, people held massive protests in Khour and other surrounding areas demanding stern action against the SHO. It may be mentioned that the rape victim belonged to a village falling under the jurisdiction of Khour police station.
The people dispersed after police officers informed them about arrest of the SHO.
