JAMMU, Mar 13: Shivani Charak, an international medalist, who had specially come from Delhi to participate in the Jammu District Sport Climbing competition, won the women’s title defeating her elder sister Shilpa Charak of Government Women College Parade, while Samiksha Manhas of KC Gurukul Public School bagged the bronze medal, here today.
Arun Deep Singh, an international climber won the prestigious men’s title defeating another international climber Mrityunjay Sharma of SPMR College, Jammu, while Vikas Singh of Domana clinched the bronze medal.
It may be mentioned here that in the final round all the medallists in the women as well as men’s category had topped the 40ft high climbing wall and the result had to be determined on the basis of time taken to reach the top of the wall.
However, the first three positions in the sub junior boys category were shared by Kashish Bharti of Shining Star Academy Muthi, Piyush Sharma of Shastri Memorial HSS Patoli and Aaradhya Manhas of St. Xavier Senior Secondary School Barnai, whereas in mini girl’s category, Ananya Bhagat of BVM Higher Secondary School topping the wall to claim the gold medal. The silver and bronze medals were secured by Navya Thakur of Shastri Memorial HSS Patoli and Nakshita Vaid of DPS, Jammu respectively.
In the valedictory function Zorawar Singh Jamwal, president of Mountaineering Association of J&K was the chief guest who along with Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School presented medals to the winners of the various categories and mementoes to the participating institutions.
Prominent people including Ram Khajuria, Sumit Khajuria, Shawetica Khajuria, Prof. Suman Lata, Seema Sharma, Shashi Bala, Sakshi Magotra and Narinder Singh Slathia were present during the event.
