JAMMU, Sept 2: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) has accused the BJP-led Central Government of discrimination against Jammu division for failing to announce a relief package despite widespread devastation caused by recent natural disasters.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s State office, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Manish Sahni said Jammu has been reeling under the impact of heavy rains, floods, cloudbursts and landslides that have claimed lives, destroyed homes and damaged infrastructure. “The people of Jammu were expecting a special relief package from the Centre, but even during Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit, no such announcement was made,” Sahni said.
He pointed out that while the Modi Government had sanctioned Rs 80,000-crore package for Kashmir floods in 2014, only Rs 209 crore has been released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) this time. Sahni alleged that despite giving the BJP massive electoral support from 2014 to 2024, Jammu’s people now feel betrayed.
