JAMMU, Aug 7: Jammu city, once considered a peaceful area in the cities of North India, has become a hub of theft, crime, drug and cow smuggling, looting, prostitution in the last few years.
The increasing number of outsiders along with unemployment and drug addiction and the lack of solid police records and verification are the main reasons.
This was stated by Shiv Sena (SS) UBT Jammu-Kashmir unit chief Manish Sahni, in a press conference held here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Sahni said, “Jammu, the city of temples, which is counted among the peaceful cities of North India, has become a hub of crime, robbery, drug and cow smuggling, prostitution etc. for the last few years, which has affected the image of Jammu.”
“Although rising unemployment and drug addiction are the main reasons, but after the abrogation of Article 370, people from outside states (many with criminal background) have rapidly coming to Jammu and its surrounding areas,” he said.
According to the information, outsiders easily commit criminal incidents and escape their state. On an average, two to three theft incidents are being registered every day in various police station areas of Jammu city.
Vehicles and tyres parked outside houses have started getting stolen. Jammu’s ring road has become a hub of cow smuggling, robbery and drug smuggling.
One feels scared to go out alone on foot or in a car on the streets of Jammu late at night.
Earlier, about a dozen Shiv Sainiks (leaders of Shinde faction) have returned home.
Sahni also welcomed the Shiv Sainiks with Shiv Bandhan and party symbol.
Nathpal Chaudhary, who joined the party was appointed as the state senior vice president, Jarnail Singh as the vice president, Jasbir Singh as the president of the block (Patta Bohri), Rashpal Singh as the president of ward 59.
