JAMMU, July 19: Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K unit has demanded restoration of full Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press conference here today Manish Sahni, Shiv Sena UBT J&K president said for the last 6 years it has been repeatedly reiterated by different leaders that Statehood will be restored at an appropriate time.
“About 11 months have passed when the elected Government was formed in J&K and before the election the J&K Reorganization Act was amended to increase the jurisdiction of the nominated Lieutenant Governor,” he further said.
The Shiv Sena leader said that last elections for local bodies were held in the year 2018 and the tenure of Urban Local Bodies ended in November 2023 and that of Panchayats in January 2024.
He said that PM Modi should fulfill the promise of restoring full Statehood to J&K in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament (starting from July 21, 2025).
Sahni also demanded immediate Panchayat and municipal elections to restore democracy at grassroots level in J&K.
“Silence of MLAs on Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections is disappointing,” he maintained.
Sanjeev Kohli, working president and Happy Verma, president youth wing were also present on this occasion.
