JAMMU, Feb 13: Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K has demanded promotion of Dogri language, art and culture.
Addressing a press conference here today Shiv Sena J&K chief, Manish Sahni said that step-motherly treatment with Dogri language started during the regime of Kashmiri rulers in J&K.
He claimed that despite being a favorite destination for filmmakers, the local film industry is not able to get any success.
“The first Dogri film ‘Gallan Hoiyaan Beetiyan’ was released in September 1966 and in the journey of 59 years, only a dozen Dogri films have been released on the big screen so far,” the Shiv Sena leader maintained adding: “The biggest problem in Dogri film industry is lack of financial support.”
He further said that Dogri film makers often regret not getting cinema halls and Jammu Doordarshan, which is considered as an important medium to keep the local art and culture alive, is also not meeting expectations.
Sahni demanded 24×7 Duggar Channel, special financial assistance for Dogri films, relaxation in conditions of subsidy for local languages in the film policy and instructions to cinema halls to show at least one show for two weeks on the release of a Dogri film.
Shiv Sena general secretary, Vikas Bakshi, senior vice president, Sanjeev Kohli and Ashok Kumar were also present in the press conference.
