JAMMU, Dec 16: Society for Haemophilia Care (SHC) India in collaboration with PG Department of Pathology, Government Medical College, Jammu conducted awareness and screening camp for patients suffering from Haemophilia–an X-linked congential bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency of coagulation factor VII (FVIII in Haemophilia A) and FIX in Haemophilia B.
The camp was attended by patients and their parents from Banihal, Srinagar, Kupwara and other areas of the State. This led to identification of two new patients.
The camp started with collection of blood samples from the patients for a battery of tests which included coagulation profile, factor assays and inhibitor status.
This was followed by address to the audience by Principal and Dean Ghansham Dev, Dr KK Kaul, Chief Nodal Officer Comprehensive Haemophilia Care Centre (CHCC) and Prof and Head PG Department of Pathology GMC Jammu and executive director SHC Vijay Kaul.
This was followed by lecture and live physiotherapy demonstration by Dr Basant Sayal for care of joints and muscles.
During the one day session individual problems of each patients were discussed and first aid kits were distributed to the patients.
In the end, Dr Kaul informed that more such camps shall be organized in the future for the awareness as well as for identification of more cases.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr Gousia, Dr Sheilja, Medical Officers CHCC, Dr Sunil Raina, Anoop Kohli and other medical staff of CHCC Pathology Department.
