
25 colleges along border to get 100 smart boards

JAMMU, Dec 17: Several key infrastructure facilities and academic initiatives including newly constructed road were inaugurated in Degree college Akhnoor today by Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir (UT), in the presence of Palash Srivastava, Deputy Managing Director, IIFCL, Government of India; Subodh Sharma, Chief General Manager, IIFCL, and Sanjay Mangtani, Assistant General Manager, IIFCL, along with senior faculty members and College Capex Committee members.
The celebrations witnessed the opening of a new academic block, a football ground, modern skill laboratories and the release of the College Newsletter ‘The Awakener’each reflecting the institution’s commitment to holistic education, innovation, and community development.
The inauguration was marked by the chanting of sacred Sanskrit Shlokas by the students of Sanskrit Honours, Semester VII.
The newly developed football ground was inaugurated by Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner and Palash Srivastava, Deputy Managing Director, IIFCL, in the presence of distinguished guests and members of the College Sports Committee.
A major highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the Digital resources like smart boards under corporate social responsibility of IIFCL. It has extended commendable support by contributing 100 smart boards to 25 colleges, situated along the International border areas of J&K (UT). The newly constructed academic block comprising dedicated classrooms/Skill labs for Commerce, Environmental Science (EVS), a Music Room, a Browsing Centre and Horticulture – Agricultural Laboratory equipped with modern tools and resources was also unveiled on the occasion.
Palash Srivastava, Deputy Managing Director IIFCL in his address applauded the tireless efforts of Principal, staff and students of GDC Akhnoor emphasizing the need to strengthen digital infrastructure. While addressing the gathering, Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department congratulated the entire team for successfully organizing the whole event. He further stated that IIFCL has extended commendable support by contributing smart boards to degree colleges, situated along International border areas of J&K (UT) to bridge the gap between rural and urban degree colleges. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Romilla Malla Bhat, Principal, GDC Akhnoor, stated that these milestones reflect our dedication to holistic education by integrating infrastructure development, innovation, communication, and recreation.
