Shankracharya temple witnesses heavy rush on Shravan Poornima

SRINAGAR, Aug 2: On the auspicious occasion of Shravan Poornima and Raksha Bandhan which mark the culmination of Shri Amarnath yatra, thousands of devotees thronged historic Shankracharya temple here today to pay their obeisance.
The Dharamarth Trust which manages the affairs of the Shankracharya had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth darshan of the Shiv Lingam in the temple. The temple was decorated to the occasion and special prayers were offered by the Sadhus.
The devotees had started queuing in the temple from the early hours and great rush was witnessed till late in the evening. Several social organizations made arrangements for the free langers at different places enroute the temple.
The temple is widely visited by the devotees from across the country, particularly on the occasions of Maha Shivratri and Raksha Bandhan. The temple has great religious significance and is believed to be built by the Pandvas themselves and they worshiped for a long time. Later the subsequent regimes including Maharajas of the State maintained the affairs of the temple.
Meanwhile, annual festival and yatra on the eve of Shrawan Purnamashi and Raksha Bandhan at Pracheen Cave of Lord Shiva at Thajiwara-Bijbehara was celebrated with traditional gaiety today.
Thousands of devotees of Lord Shiva from all parts of the state and outside participated in the festival and yatra.
The main features of the festival and yatra were Puja Archana held during the night of 1st and 2nd August at the shrine complex. The Managing Committee had made all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of yatra and festival with the active cooperation of district and local administration.
M.L.A Bijbehara, A. R. Veeri, MLC, Vijay Bakaya and MLC, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri also paid the obeisance at the shrine and showed solidarity with the devotees. They also prayed for the peace and tranquillity of the state and the country.
Local population belonging to majority community cooperated with management in the conduct of yatra at Thajiwara shrine.
