JAMMU, Sept 13: Former Minister and Jammu North MLA, Sham Lal Sharma has written a letter to External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr. S. Jaishankar urging him to intervene for the safe evacuation of Jammu and Kashmir youth working in Russia. He has emphasized that their safety and timely return home should be the top priority.
While requesting intervention for the safe release of Indian citizens, he said that two citizens of Jammu and Kashmir Sachin Khajuria, son of Banarasi Lal resident of Pahariwala, Jammu and Sumit Sharma and others who had taken admission in the Federal State Budgetary Higher Education Institution at Moscow State Linguistic University for the purpose of pursuing higher education were misled by an agent. The agent gave them false assurance that they would be registered only for bunker construction work. Contrary to these promises, they have reportedly been forcibly deployed in direct combat zones near Ukraine without any military training or prior knowledge of such duties. In view of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, immediate action is required to ensure their early safe return, he said.
MLA Sham Lal Sharma requested the Union Minister to intervene in the matter and ensure their return to the country. Immediate assistance provided by the Ministry of External Affairs will help ensure their release and repatriation so that those who have gone to Russia can return and provide relief to their families.
