JAMMU, Sept 7: MLA Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma, today visited several landslide and flood-affected areas in Jammu North constituency to review the damage and ensure timely relief for affected families.
Sharma toured Panchayats Keran and Kanger, where heavy rainfall has triggered large-scale landslides and land sinking, damaging homes, agricultural fields, and basic infrastructure.
He interacted with locals and expressed concern over families living in unsafe conditions after their houses were either destroyed or badly damaged.
He directed the administration to provide temporary shelters, tents, and other essentials so that no displaced family is left without support.
The MLA asked officials to conduct a detailed assessment of losses and expedite relief and rehabilitation work.
He stressed that the response should be quick, coordinated, and people-centric, assuring residents that every effort would be made to restore safety and normalcy.
He also highlighted the urgent need to stabilize the sinking land in Keran and Kanger to avoid further risks, along with clearing debris, restoring road connectivity, and resuming water and electricity supply.
Apart from landslide-hit areas, Sharma also visited locations damaged by flash floods, including the cremation ground near Ring Road in Panchayat Bhalwal Upper-A and Mohalla Darkhli in Ward number 6 of Bhalwal Upper-B.
He assured that restoration of these sites would also be taken up on priority.
Sharma was accompanied by senior officers and local representatives, reflecting joint efforts by the administration and party workers to address the crisis.
Concluding his visit, he reiterated his commitment to stand with the affected people, ensuring that Government departments work together for speedy relief, proper rehabilitation, and long-term safety of residents.
