SRINAGAR, July 8: Terming Shahr-e-Khas as “heart of Srinagar”, Tanvir Sadiq, Political Secretary to Chief Minister today said that it has borne the brunt of 22 years and needs to be cured in all ways
“Shahr-e-Khas borne the brunt of curfew, crackdowns, stone pelting and business suffered tremendously because of strikes, and this needs to stop for a prosperous Srinagar in particular and the state in general”, the Political Secretary to CM said while interacting with various delegation of artisans, weavers and small scale businessman from downtown Srinagar at the Chief Ministers’ private office here today.
“While Srinagar is the heart of Kashmir, the Shahr-e-Khas is the heart of Srinagar but this heart has been ailing with many problems that needs to be cured by all of us,” Tanvir said, adding ” downtown has so much to showcase, it is a mixture of heritage buildings, fort, lakes, river ways etc. We should showcase the beauty of down town,” he said adding Shahr-e-Khas houses many shrines and the area can be projected for pilgrim tourism.
Tanvir said that Omar Abdullah led Government wants to see the change in the people of Shahr-e-Khas and its dwellers and many schemes have been put in place to help the artisans and people associated with small businesses.
“With the launch of Artisans Credit Card Scheme (ACCS) more than 70,000 artisans of the Srinagar district, associated with handicrafts and handlooms, were benefited and providing 40,000 modern looms to the artisans free of cost was a huge step”, said Tanvir.
Later, Tanvir distributed cheques of medical assistance to patients suffering from cancer, kidney problem and heart ailments from the CM’s relief fund.
