Shaheedi Divas observed at Rezang La War Memorial

LEH, Mar 30: Shaheedi Divas was solemnly observed at the Rezang La War Memorial as part of the nationwide commemorative series marking 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram”.
The programme was organized by the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students of Chushul and Changthang, along with members of the local community. A mass rendition of “Vande Mataram” formed the highlight of the event, creating an atmosphere of patriotism and collective pride while paying homage to the nation’s martyrs.
Addressing the gathering, speakers paid rich tributes to the sacrifices of India’s soldiers and war veterans, acknowledging their role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and integrity. They described the observance of Shaheedi Divas under the banner of “Vande Mataram” as a meaningful tribute to the martyrs.
Commandant, 142 Brigade, Chushul, attended the function as chief guest, while Angchuk, Nambardar (Goba) of Chushul village, was the guest of honour. Among the prominent speakers were Tsewang Paljor and Nazir Hussain, in addition to the Commandant and the Nambardar.
The speakers highlighted the historical significance of Shaheedi Divas and underscored the relevance of celebrating it alongside the 150-year milestone of “Vande Mataram”. They elaborated on the song’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and its continuing importance in fostering national unity and identity.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge by participants to uphold the ideals embodied in the national song. The proceedings were conducted by Nazir Hussain.
