POONCH, Sept 2: Expressing grave concern over rampant illegal mining in the region, Shafiq Mir, Chairman of the All J&K Panchayat Conference (JKPC) and former Chairman of the Block Development Council Bufliaz, today claimed that the practice has posed a serious threat to the existence of the Mughal Road, which is the vital link connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.

Addressing a press conference, Mir alleged that the mining mafia is operating in the area with the active support of local government officials.
“Due to illegal mining, not only is the Mughal Road under threat, but the local population is also facing severe risks. If any mishap occurs, the Poonch district administration will be held responsible,” he warned.
He further accused the government of indirectly supporting the illegal operations, pointing out that despite repeated complaints from residents, no concrete action has been taken.
“Their failure to act against the mafia proves that officials themselves are beneficiaries of this loot and plunder,” Mir asserted.
