RAJOURI, July 6: Former minister and MLA Rajouri, Shabir Ahmed Khan today distributed cheques worth Rs 22.00 lacs among 125 students as Post Matric Scholarship under Pahari Welfare Board and also released a Book at Himalayan Degree College, Thandikassi Rajouri.
Secretary PSP Board, Showkat Qazmi remained present in the function as guest of honour, while Addl Dy Commissioner Rajouri Mohd Saleem Malik, Mohd Farooq Muztar, founder patron of Himalayan Education Mission Society were the special guests on the occasion.
Khan, while addressing the gathering of students, said that need of the hour is to strengthen the society against the communal tensions and such books shall play a pivotal role in reducing gaps between communities and also in bringing awareness among public. He said broader vision of young people shall definitely bring the State out of turmoil and will witness a path of development.
One of the highlights of the program was the release of a book entitled “Islamic civilization” which is an extract of the articles of Munshi Prem Chand the renowned novelist and writer who published the same in Pratap newspaper in 1925.
Prof Mohammad Saleem Wani endeavoured to translate the same in English and Chinar Tree Publications published it.
Showkat Kazmi, Secy PSP gave a detailed view of the achievements of the Board during past 5 years and told the gathering that Rs 2.31 crores have been provided to the students of the state in respect of Post Matric Scholarships in the current financial year and out of which about Rs 70 lakh has been provided to students of Rajouri.
Mohd Shafi Dar, Kuldeep Raj Gupta and others also spoke on the occasion.
Bilal Rashid Assistant Director Planning conducted the proceedings of the programme and Mohd Muslim Wani, chairman Himalayan Society presented the vote of thanks.
