JAMMU, Mar 16: Renowned cultural organization Natrang, in association with Arohi Sangeet Kala Vidyalaya, organised a musical evening titled “Shaam-e-Ghazal” at Abhinav Theatre here today.
The programme featured noted singer Jitender Singh Jamwal, who captivated the audience with a series of soulful ghazals and Dogri folk songs during a performance that lasted over two hours.
Originally from Jammu and currently based in Delhi, Jamwal has been active in the music world for more than three decades and is known for his performances of ghazals, Dogri folk, Sufi and devotional music.
During the concert, he presented several popular ghazals including “Mehfil Mein Baar Baar,” “Ranjish Hi Sahi,” “Huzoor Aapka Bhi,” “Patta Patta Boota Boota,” and “Chand Tare Na Ye,” which received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Adding a regional touch to the programme, he also sang Dogri folk songs such as “Maye Ni Meriye,” “Nikadde Phangaddu,” and “Tu Malla Tu,” celebrating the cultural heritage of the Jammu region.
Jamwal is also an accomplished music director and has composed music for films, television serials, radio programmes, advertisements and ballets. His compositions are known for blending classical traditions with contemporary styles.
Among those present on the occasion were MLAs Yudvir Sethi and Devyani Rama, Padma Shri awardee Balwant Thakur, Director of Natrang, and Kuldeep Kumar, Chairman of Arohi Kala Sangeet Vidyalaya, besides several artists, prominent citizens and music lovers.
The programme received an overwhelming response, with the audience giving a standing ovation at the end.
Many attendees said the concert was special as Jamwal rarely performs in Jammu due to his busy schedule in Delhi and frequent international engagements.
