JAMMU, Aug 11: Amid complaints of illegal mining in Suran river and Betar Nallah a joint team of Revenue and Police comprising of Naib Tehsildar, Maroof Khan, Naib Tehsildar Akhter Abbas along with a police party raided various illegal mining locations alongside Suran River and Betar Nallah in Poonch.
The whole exercise was conducted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Poonch Inder Jeet and under the supervision of Tehsildar Haveli Anjum Khattak , ARTO Poonch Basharat Mehmood and SHO Poonch Ranjit Singh Rao.
At many locations, the drivers of the vehicles collecting material from the river beds fled from the spot leaving their trolleys and tippers behind. Tyres of 17 such vehicles were deflated and details have been collected for registration of FIRs.
To curb this menace, three ramps constructed for facilitating illegal mining were also destroyed. Apart from that 4 vehicles were seized. Fine was also imposed on few drivers. The raid was conducted in Degwar, Shehar-e-Khas, Khanetar and Jhullas sector. The officers further stated that various lives have been lost due to the illegal mining activities and they would not allow mining mafia to further vitiate the atmosphere.
