JAMMU, Mar 11: Police in Jammu South Zone today claimed they have seized seven vehicles for mining illegally in their jurisdiction in the last 48 hours.
In Belicharana, a police official said, an excavator along with a JCB was seized while the vehicles were engaged in illegal mining in River Tawi to harm the ecological balance and disrupt the natural flow of the river.
Additionally, he said, Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu seized two dumpers loaded with River Bed Material being transported illegally, while Police Post Phallain Mandal seized two tractor trolleys involved in unauthorised mining.
Furthermore, Police Post Gadigarh seized a tractor trolley loaded with boulders, adding to the multiple enforcement actions taken to cub the illegal smuggling of the mineral strength, he said.
Post seizure, all the vehicles were handed over to the DMO Jammu for further action against them.
“The Jammu Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining, ensuring strict enforcement and swift action against violators. The crackdown will continue with intensified monitoring and legal proceedings against those involved in mineral smuggling,” SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma said.
Meanwhile, in a separate initiative, Police Stations across the South Zone engaged with 35 senior citizens, addressing their concerns related to safety, security, and well being.
This proactive step strengthened the police-community relations and enhanced support systems for elderly residents.
