BHADERWAH, June 26: In a major crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, the Forest Department here today seized seven mechanical cutters during intensive overnight operations in the past two days in Bhaderwah Forest Division.
Acting on credible intelligence received from local sources, Range Officer Bhalesh, Adil Shan, under the direction of DFO Bhaderwah, raided in compartments 59/Bh and 63/Bh and seized four mechanical cutters from timber smugglers and shifted these equipments to Forest Complex, Gandoh.
Simultaneously, a separate operation in Kellar Range led by Range Officer, Shafkhat Malik led to the seizure of three more mechanical cutters. The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of CF Chenab, Arshdeep Singh.
DFO Bhaderwah Devender Kumar said, “The Forest Department is making every possible effort to curb timber smuggling.”
