MENDHAR, Aug 31: A villager who was set on fire by pouring petrol at Uchhad village in Mendhar on last Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries in GMC&H, Jammu today.
His two minor children who also met the same fate are struggling for life in GMC, Hospital Jammu. The police said that on Tuesday last, Nazakat Hussain (40), son of Mohd Bashir, resident of Uchhad was sleeping in the Veranda of his house. His two minor sons were also sleeping on the nearby cot. Some people sprinkled petrol on them during mid night and set of them on fire. With burn injuries, they were rushed to Mendhar Hospital and later referred to GMC&H, Jammu.
Nazakat breathed his last in Jammu hospital this morning. His body was brought to this home town this afternoon. The relatives and villagers held strong protest at Uchhad and blocked Poonch roads for about two hours. They alleged that police has failed to solve the case even after a week. Later, MLA Mendhar Javed Rana, SDPO Shahid Nahim and Tehsildar assured the people that accused will be arrested shortly. The people then lifted dharna. SDPO claimed that one suspect has been detained in this connection.
