Seminars, lectures, medical camps mark World Health Day

JAMMU, Apr 7: World Health Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by various educational and health institutions across the Jammu region.
Government Ayurvedic Hospital (GAH), Jammu organized a seminar on Diabetes, its diagnosis and treatment in Ayurveda on the occasion of World Health Day. Dr Taran Singh, Medical Superintendent (MS), GAH Jammu, said that this is the 6th lecture in the series, which has been started to upgrade the knowledge of the staff working in the hospital to make people of J&K healthy.
The main speaker was Dr Bipan Chander, MD, who gave a power point presentation describing about the diabetes, its prevention, management and various curative aspects as per ayurveda and emphasized upon the various life style disorders and their management through ayurveda. Dr Shivani Chib, Intern, also presented paper on the occasion for do’s and don’ts in diabetes.
In connection with the day, a free camp for detection of diabetes was organized at Sungal in block Akhnoor under the supervision of Dr Vinod Kumar, Block Medical Officer, Akhnoor. The camp was inaugurated by MLA Akhnoor, Rajeev Sharma in the presence of SDM Akhnoor, Suresh Sharma. About 100 subjects above the age group of 40 years underwent for the testing of blood sugar. Similar camps were also organized at CHCs, PHCs and Health Sub Centres of block Akhnoor, where people were tested for diabetes.
Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah organized a special lecture on World Health Day to generate awareness regarding the theme ‘Beat Diabetes’ under the supervision of Prof Archana Bakshi, HoD English. Dr Rakesh Anand from Sub-district Hospital, Bishnah was the guest speaker who made the students and staff acquainted with various health problems in general and diabetes in particular. Dr Anand stressed upon the students to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle along with personal hygiene to combat various lifestyle diseases including diabetes.
On World Health Day, the Department of Geography, GDC Bhaderwah organized a seminar on the topic ‘Health Day’. The seminar was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Prof ZA Hashmi, who in his address suggested some important measures to maintain health. Prof Basharat Iqbal, HoD English, revealed the threatening impact of the Geographical changes and the preventive measures. In his keynote address, Prof Javed Mohi-ud-Din highlighted the role of Medical Geography in health and healthcare delivery while Prof Surinder Parihar, HoD, Economics, gave a detailed account about the Economic importance of maintaining the Geographical status of the globe.
On the occasion of World Health Day, a symposium and exhibition was organized today by Lieutenant Colonel Vivek Gupta, Officer Commanding, 136 Station Health Organization at 136 SHO Health Education hall, focusing on theme, “Beat Diabetes” with a Goal, “Scale up prevention, strengthen care, and enhance surveillance.” In his address, Lt Col Vivek Gupta said that a large proportion of diabetes cases are preventable. He said that simple lifestyle, maintaining normal body weight, engaging in regular physical activity and eating a healthy diet can reduce the risk of Diabetes.
The Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Kalal under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Uniform Force Headquarters, Reasi conducted a medical awareness campaign on the occasion of ‘World Health Day’ in conjunction with civil authorities, for the people of village Mangiote. 250 people including women and children from far flung areas of the village Mangiote ranges turned up for the medical camp. A team of doctors and nursing assistants provided medical assistance to the patients. A lecture on health awareness issues was also conducted by the Medical officer to create awareness among the locals about water borne diseases and precautions to be observed.
Stephens International Public School, Miran Sahib celebrated World Health Day by holding a special morning assembly with the theme based on health. The basic aim was to make students aware of health and health problems and how to remain socially, mentally, emotionally and physically healthy. A Healthy Tiffin Competition was also held for class 1st and 2nd in which Mridul Paul of Class 2nd and Anurag Choudhary of Class 1st bagged 1st position. Mannat of Class 2nd and Naman of Class 1st bagged 2nd position and Natik of Class 1st stood third.
