Seminar on Future of Libraries: Trends, Issues & Challenges begins at JU

JAMMU, Mar 15: Two-day National Seminar on Future of Libraries: Trends, Issues and Challenges (NASOFOL-2016), organized by Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu and sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, began here today.
Professor P B Mangla, Ex-Dean and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi; Dr H K Kaul, Director, DELNET; Professor R Bandyopadhyay, Faculty, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calcutta, Kolkatta were among the important dignitaries who spoke over the theme of the event and enriched the occasion with their views and experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, JU, stressed on the sustainability of the libraries and called upon the Library Professionals to focus on various utilities especially the services utility and communication utility so that the best type of services and good books are made available to the users. He also stressed upon the young faculty and research scholars to get benefitted by such type of academic activities.
Dr H K Kaul    discussed various challenges being faced by the digital libraries in today’s world and also stressed more on their quality consideration.
Professor Bandyopadhyay specified participation and collaboration as the future of libraries.
In his Keynote address, Professor PB Mangla highlighted the service aspect of libraries and eloquently highlighted the developmental perspective of the libraries. He tried to view future libraries as a co-existence between paper and paperless society.
Other important dignitaries in the seminar, included Dr H S Chopra, GNDU, Amritsar; Dr  Sanjay Kataria, JIIT, Noda; Professor Preeti Mahajan, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr  Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Kurukshetra Univeersity; Professor Shashi Prabha Singh, DLIS, University of Delhi; Professor S M Shafi, KU and Dr  Rajiv Vij, DESIDOC, Delhi.
More than 120 participants from almost every part of India are participating in the seminar by sharing their views and expertise on the theme.
Professor Sangita Gupta, Head, Department of Library and Information Science and organizing secretary (NASOFOL), welcomed the guests and delegates from all across India.
Vikram Singh Sahi anchored the inaugural programme while P K Singh delivered the formal vote of thanks.
