Srinagar, Oct 28: The Lab Track System-Full Lab Automation in the Biochemistry Diagnostic Lab GMC, Srinagar, and its associated SMHS hospital was today e-inaugurated by Bhupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education in presence of Prof (Dr) Samia Rashid, Principal GMC, Srinagar.
The Administrative Secretary stated in his inauguration address that introducing the most recent technology advancements, including IT, to bolster patient care is a thrust area, and the Department of Biochemistry at GMC Srinagar’s efforts in this direction are commended.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Head, Deptt of Medicine Prof (Dr) Masood Tanveer, former Head, Deptt of Biochemistry, Prof Syed Taffazul Hussain, the Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital, and other dignitaries.
Prof (Dr) Sabhiya Majid Head, the Deptt of Biochemistry informed the gathering that its Biochemistry Diagnostic Lab, SMHS Hospital (NABL accredited) is going to be one of its kind, fully automated lab in India.
GMC said that full lab automation is the need of the hour for the Biochemistry Diagnostic Laboratories of GMC and its associated SMHS Hospital, which processes around a thousand samples round-the-clock.
“On the fully automated analyzers installed around six thousand biochemical and immunological routine / advanced investigations are done per day. Diagnostic laboratory is the Central element in entire patient care and contributes to 70 % of all the clinical decisions,” Prof (Dr) Sabhiya Majid said.
On the occasion, it was said that the hospital will be a pioneer in introducing ‘Intelligent Car Technology’ with a Smart Software Infrastructure to route the samples right from receipt of the sample at the Phlebotomy stage to release of the result stage.
“This will enable the lab to reduce the turnaround time, improve accuracy and enhance operational productivity for better patient care. For this purpose the Biochemistry department has collaborated with Abbott Laboratories to bring the latest state-of-the-art Lab Automation technology in India,” GMC said.
It is to be noted here that the Abbott GLP Lab Automation System has transformed many laboratories across the globe as the centre of excellence.
