SRINAGAR, Jan 23: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, today said that the security grid has been tightened across the Valley ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.
He said elaborate and multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place across Kashmir to ensure peaceful and incident-free celebrations.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to martyrs at the Balidan Stambh, IGP said Republic Day functions would be held across the entire Kashmir zone.
“The functions will take place in different districts, where chief guests will receive the salute,” he said.

The IGP said his visit to the Balidan Stambh was aimed at paying homage to the martyrs.
“It is an important occasion to remember and honour our martyrs. The main Republic Day function will be held at Bakshi Stadium, where police personnel, schoolchildren and members of the public will participate in the parade,” he added.
Replying to a query on the security arrangements, IGP said multi-layered security measures had been deployed across the Valley, with special focus on Srinagar city.
“The security wing of the J&K Police, along with paramilitary forces, has further tightened the security grid to ensure peaceful celebrations,” he said.
