JAMMU, Dec 29: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, under the guidance of R N Watal, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Jammu ( Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu), and under the supervision of Maleeka Sharma, Sub Judge/Secretary, DLSA Jammu, today conducted an inspection of Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Maleeka Sharma, Secretary of DLSA Jammu; Chhabil Singh Bhau, Senior Superintendent of Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, and Anil Sharma, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Jammu, personally visited and inspected Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu to gain first-hand knowledge of the living conditions of under-trial prisoners, detenues, and other inmates, as well as the overall functioning of the jail. Maleeka Sharma held interactions with under-trial prisoners, detenues, and convict prisoners in the ground area of the jail and took a first-hand stock of facilities available there.
The inspection covered a wide range of areas, including the Jail Legal Aid Clinic, Virtual VC rooms, interview area, prisoner calling system, Jail Hospital, Kitchen Area, etc. The Medical Centre within the jail premises was thoroughly inspected, and a visit was also made to the Jail Hospital.
During the visit, the team interacted with under-trial prisoners, detenues, and convict prisoners in the presence of the Senior Superintendent of Central Jail.
As some areas of the jail premises require renovation, directions were given on the spot to the Superintendent of Central Jail Kot Bhalwal to identify the issues and coordinate with the concerned authorities under the applicable rules.
