JAMMU, Jan 16: Prohibitory orders were imposed as a precautionary measure in Doda district today in view of the burial of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Haroon Abbas Wani, who was killed in a gunbattle with security forces in wee hours of yesterday morning.
The burial of the militant was performed this afternoon at his native village in Furqaanabad in Ghat area of Doda amidst very tight security arrangements with police parties led by SSP Doda Mumtaz Ahmed supervising security arrangements.
The burial, however, passed off peacefully.
“We have imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure in Doda”, Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Dr Sagar D Doifode said.
Security forces yesterday gunned down Wani, who was involved in 2018 double murder of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar, senior RSS functionary Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO Rajinder Singh and two weapon snatching incidents in Kishtwar.
An MBA graduate from Katra University, Wani used to work at a private company which he quit when he joined the Hizbul Mujahideen.
Situation in entire Doda district remained peaceful today amidst prohibitory orders as no untoward incident was reported from any part. Administration, however, had made tight security arrangements in all sensitive areas to meet with any eventuality.
