Srinagar, Nov 29: The Srinagar Development Authority has prepared a list of over 200 shops in multiple areas of the old city in Srinagar which, according to the authority, raised structures beyond the permissible limits on the premises provided to them on rent by the Authority.
The SDA has identified commercial structures in various localities of the old city and categorised them as unauthorised constructions or violations of building norms. The document was prepared after internal verification.
These shops are located in multiple areas of old city, including Nowhatta, Khanyar, Zaina Kadal, Safa Kadal, Hawal, Gojwara, Eidgah, Rainawari, Malik Angan, Waniyar, Soura, Bucchpora, and adjoining localities.
Vice Chairman Mohammad Rafi said the administration has started an exercise of checking deviation of building permissions by shopkeepers and building holders in the city on commercial units allotted to them by the authority.
He said that it has come to the notice of SDA that several shopkeepers have raised structures beyond the permissible limits on the premises provided to them on rent by the SDA. He said multiple complaints have also been received in this regard.
“Notices have already been served to many shopkeepers. They have been asked to explain their position regarding the illegal constructions on allotted shops,” he said.
The Vice Chairman clarified that there is currently no demolition drive planned against these structures. “These are SDA properties, so there is no question of demolition. The process at present is limited to verification and collection of full data,” he said.
