SRINAGAR, Mar 27: The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) today removed over a dozen tin-shed structures erected by pony wallas along the nallah Sindh and in the bypass area of Sonamarg as part of an anti-encroachment drive.
The action was carried out in accordance with the High Court’s directions banning unauthorized constructions in the Sonamarg area, with the SDA intensifying its enforcement measures in Ganderbal district.
Officials said that in a key enforcement step, thirteen tin shed structures were demolished during the drive in order to clear encroachments in the tourist destination.
The demolition was undertaken on the directions of the Chief Executive Officer, SDA, targeting illegally erected structures along the nallah Sindh and the Sonamarg bypass.
The drive was conducted by the SDA’s enforcement wing in the presence of officials, who ensured that the operation adhered to legal provisions.
Several unauthorized structures were identified and dismantled on the spot during the exercise, officials added.
Authorities said the drive was part of a broader initiative to regulate unplanned constructions and protect the fragile ecology of Sonamarg, a prominent tourist hub in central Kashmir.
The SDA said it will continue strict action against violations and ensure compliance with established norms and regulations.
Officials also warned that any future attempts to raise unauthorized structures would invite legal action.
