JAMMU, Jan 12: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has registered a case against two persons for allegedly cheating a complainant of Rs 9 lakh on the pretext of providing a job.
The accused have been identified as Ajay Gupta and his wife Anshu Gupta, residents of Lane Number 2, Sarwal, near Shangrilla Higher Secondary School, Jammu,
Quoting the complaint, SSP SCW Jammu, Sanjay Parihar said the accused induced the complainant to pay money by assuring him of a suitable job.
He said an amount of Rs 3.50 lakh was transferred to Anshu Gupta’s bank account, Rs 2 lakh to Ajay Gupta’s account, while the remaining Rs 3.50 lakh was paid in cash.
“However, no job was provided and the accused kept delaying the matter. Later, two cheques of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 7 lakh were issued but were dishonoured on presentation,” he said.
According to the SSP SCW Jammu, a preliminary verification confirmed the allegations, following which a case under sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station SCW, Crime Branch Jammu.
He said further investigation has been entrusted to Inspector Kali Charan.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has advised the public to remain cautious of such fraudulent job offers.
