SCW books Jammu man for duping victim of Rs 12 lakh

JAMMU, Aug 7: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) Jammu, has registered a case of cheating against a local man for allegedly duping a job-seeker of Rs 12 lakh by promising him a Government job.
The accused has been identified as Pawnesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Residency Road, Jammu.
Quoting the complaint, an SCW official said the victim was introduced to the accused while working in a private firm and was promised a Government job in return for money.
He said initially, the accused gave the complainant a fake appointment letter for a post in the Military Engineer Services (MES), followed later by another forged letter from the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
He said the accused also made the victim travel to cities like Chandigarh, Delhi and Lucknow, claiming these trips were for medical tests and job formalities.
According to the SCW official, the complainant ended up transferring Rs 9 lakh into the accused’s bank account at J&K Bank, Residency Road Branch, and handed over another Rs 3 lakh in cash.
After realising he had been cheated, the victim approached the SCW Jammu, he said.
He said following a preliminary enquiry and review of documentary evidence, the SCW found that the accused had misled the victim and fraudulently obtained the money.
Based on the findings, an FIR under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused on August 6, he said.
He added that the case is being investigated by Inspector Deepak Thakur.
The case was worked out under the supervision of SSP (SCW) Sanjay Parihar.
