JAMMU, Oct 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) have registered two FIRs after a scuffle broke out between two groups over alleged bovine smuggling here at Sohanjana Village.
A police official said that an altercation broke out on the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday when a group of cow vigilantes intercepted some bovine smugglers at Sohanjana.
As the tension escalated, he said, the nearby villagers also joined the cow vigilantes and resorted to protest against the bovine smugglers.
Followed by this, the police official said that a team of senior police officers rushed to the spot and contained the situation by assuring the protestors that stern action had already been initiated in the case by registering two separate FIRs.
Meanwhile, responding to the rumours and misinformation circulating on the social media and messaging platforms, police have clarified that much of this information is “inaccurate” and “misleading.”
They said their officers acted swiftly in the matter to contain the situation and as such there was no significant threat to public safety as reported by social media platforms.
“The prompt response ensured that the incident didn’t escalate further,” police said.
They urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources and report any concerns directly to them.
Police warned that spreading false information could cause unnecessary tension within the community and may result in legal consequences.
