JAMMU, Feb 5: Municipal Workers Union (MWU) Jammu today staged a protest demonstration demanding scrapping of NGO system for employing Safai Saathis in Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
The protest was led by Rinku Gill, president of the Union.
While addressing the protesters, Gill also demanded that Minimum Wages Act should be implemented in J&K also so that the Safai Saathis of J&K should get wages at par with their counterparts in other Union Territories (UTs).
Other demands included employment of dependents of the Municipal workers under SRO 43 after the death of their bread winners.
The protesters also demanded regularisation of the residential colonies of Safai Saathis in Jammu.
They raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Ashwani Sidhu, general secretary of the Union, Manga Mattoo, chairman, Kulvinder Khokhar, general secretary and others were also present in the protest.
