SCI Jammu hosts Poster-Making Competition on National Cancer Awareness Day

JAMMU, Nov 8: To mark National Cancer Awareness Day, the State Cancer Institute, Jammu organized an inter-college Poster-Making Competition today, drawing enthusiastic participation from students of various nursing colleges across Jammu region.
The event aimed to spread awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Nursing students showcased their creativity through posters highlighting key messages on tobacco cessation, breast and cervical cancer screening, balanced nutrition, and the role of nurses in cancer care and patient education.
The programme was held under the guidance of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean, Government Medical College, Jammu and under the direct supervision of Dr Deepak Kumar, Medical Superintendent, State Cancer Institute Jammu, who emphasized the importance of youth engagement in cancer awareness initiatives. He noted that such creative platforms not only educate participants but also empower them to become ambassadors of health within their communities.
Judges for the event included Dr Rajeev Gupta, Assistant Professor & HoD of Medical Oncology, SCI Jammu, Dr Suby Singh, Assistant Professor, Pathology, SCI Jammu, Jyoti Rokri, Assistant Account Officer, SSH Jammu, Gayander Shaukla from Amar Ujala, Lovy from IPHH and Umar from Bee Enn College of Nursing evaluated the entries based on creativity, clarity of message, and relevance to the theme.
First prize went to Kiran Sharma & Team (SCI Jammu) while Damini Sharma & Team (Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, Jammu) bagged second prize. Third prize was shared by Azaan & Team (IPHH College of Nursing), Ayushi & Arti (Bee Enn College of Nursing), Fiza Tabasum & Team (Bee Enn College of Nursing) and Ayushi Sharma & Team (Bee Enn College of Nursing).
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the organizing committee.
