SRINAGAR, Oct 15: Government Primary School in district Ganderbal’s Babawayil Balla area is functioning without proper road connectivity and lacks a playground, causing hardships for students and teachers alike.
Residents said that due to the absence of road connectivity, students have to cross a nallah to reach the school – a risky task, especially during rains.
Established in 2009, the school continues to operate under unsafe and inadequate conditions, hampering the education of students.
Local resident Muhammad Shabir Khan said that while teaching at the school is good, basic facilities are missing.
“The school was constructed in 2009 after locals provided the land. Teaching is fine, but the school lacks proper connectivity, a ground, and fencing,” he said.
Khan said the school often remains shut during rains, with officials rarely visiting to address the issues.
“No official visits have been made to improve the conditions. Students have to cross a nallah daily – it’s risky,” he said, urging authorities to ensure proper road connectivity.
Another local, Asghar Khan, said the lack of road access remains a major problem.
“This is a big issue for students. The authorities claim to have taken it up with concerned departments, but nothing has changed,” he said.
He added, “Forget the playground – having a proper road is most important. Parents can’t afford to send their children to private schools.”
Chief Education Officer (CEO), Ganderbal, Oneel Bhat, when contacted, said the matter has been taken up with the concerned departments.
“The school has a nallah that makes connectivity difficult. It will be addressed with the concerned department,” he said.
