JAMMU, Dec 19: The Jonaraja Institute of Genocide & Atrocities Studies was launched here today. The launching ceremony was attended by a galaxy of intellectuals and scholars. Those who were on the dais included Dr Dilip Kaul Director of the Institute, Dr Agnishekhar a well known scholar and convener, Panun Kashmir (PK), Dr Ajay Chrungoo, chairman PK, senior BJP leader and Ex MLC, Surinder Ambardar, chairman Ek Jutt Jammu, Ankur Sharma, Research Scholar , Pardeep Dutta , Senior Editor Times Now, Dr Mahesh Kaul and Archana Kaul.
The brain behind the establishing of the Study Centre is Titoo Ganjoo its chairman who while talking to this correspondent said that the aim of Jonaraja Institute in the academic field of genocide studies is the most needed sphere of knowledge in India. As the dehumanizing genocidal elements are out to overwhelm India the field of genocide studies will enable us to identify and counter such dehumanizing elements. That is the aim of Jonaraja Institute, he added.
In his address Director of the Institute, Dr Dilip Kaul said that India has suffered genocide for over last 600 years but it is unfortunate that Indian State remained sleeping and no work has been done over it till date.
He said the great historian of Kashmir Jonaraja has given appropriate definition of genocide. He said the dehumanizing elements need to be identified and given punitive action. He said the main goal of the institute is to act against the genocide.
Dr Agnishekhar while terming it a great day in J&K history said “We are furthering the mission of our ancestors”. He said Titoo Ganjoo the chairman and Monika Kohli deserves all accolades who tirelessly worked in this field.
Dr Ajay Chrungoo terming that the founders of the institute have done a great job and a responsible job, said it is a step in right direction. He said the genocide of Hindus still continues in Kashmir and it is unfortunate that those at the helm of affairs were comparing it with the situation of 1990. He said the minority community employees continue to live in constant fear in Valley on one hand and on the other hand they are facing official apathy.
On the occasion Prof. M.K. Teng Chair was constituted by the Institute. The Chair is dedicated to the memory and matchless scholarly work of eminent political scientist of the Indian nation & J and K Prof Mohan Krishen Teng.
Dr Mahesh Kaul has been appointed head of this distinguished chair.
