SCERT concludes 5-day training on ‘Inclusive Education’ under NISHTHA

JAMMU, Feb 22: The State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Jammu division, successfully concluded a five-day training programme on “Inclusive Education” under NISHTHA, aimed at strengthening inclusive education practices across Jammu and Kashmir.
Conducted from February 18 to 22, the initiative targeted teachers, masters and lecturers of classes 9 to 12 across ten districts. The programme was conducted under the mentorship of SCERT Director Prof Parikshat Manhas and the leadership of Joint Director JKSCERT Jammu division, Prof (Dr) Sindhu Kapoor.
Aligned with Supreme Court directives, the initiative sought to equip educators with strategies for fostering an inclusive learning environment. Earlier in February, 187 Heads of Institutions (HoIs) and 42 Key Resource Persons (KRPs) were trained at JKSCERT, Jammu, ensuring consistency in implementation. SCERT Jammu division, in collaboration with District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), employed a cascading training approach to maximize outreach, conducting sessions at 11 venues across ten districts.
The programme was formally inaugurated at Government Polytechnic College, Jammu, by Prof (Dr) Sindhu Kapoor, who also launched the initiative across all districts. She underscored the programme’s role in promoting inclusive education and supporting diverse learners, including children with disabilities and marginalized groups.
Over five days, 18 expert-led sessions covered topics such as equity in education, disability types, legal frameworks, sign language, resource room activities, mental health support, early intervention, universal design for learning, technological accessibility, and special education policies.
A total of 1,250 educators from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Ramban participated, with 271 more set to be trained in the next phase.
The valedictory function featured Dr Yasmeen Ashai, former Director of Colleges, as chief guest, alongside other dignitaries. All the participants were awarded certificates. The event was coordinated by Dr Sanjeevani Sharma, under the supervision of convenor Dr Neeraj Jandiyal and co-convenor Assistant Professor Arti Gupta, with support from the JKSCERT Jammu team.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Neeraj Jandiyal.
