RAJOURI, July 30: Acute shortage of safe drinking water in Old Thannamandi town is forcing people to come on roads to protest.
The residents of Old Thannamandi are facing acute shortage of drinking water for the past over two months and no heed has been paid by the PHE Department in this regard.
The residents said that the drinking water supply in the area is totally contaminated and unfit for drinking. People are forced to use the contaminated water due to shortage of safe drinking water, they added.
They said that the issue was taken up with the PHE Department officials various times, but nothing has been done in this regard.
“We will come on road and hold massive protest against PHE Department if our water scarcity issue was not sorted out at the earliest”, they added.
One of the residents Aijaz Ahmed while talking to Excelsior said that for the past over two months, people of Old Thannamandi are facing scarcity of drinking water. In lieu of pure drinking water, contaminated water is being supplied in the houses by the PHE Department, which sometime creates health hazard.
The issue was taken up with the PHE Department officials various times, but they did not pay heed to it, forcing the people to come on roads and hold protest, he added.
