SC Collegium recommends fresh term for Justice Rajesh Sekhri

NEW DELHI, May 18: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended a fresh one-year term for Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an Additional Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

The Collegium of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh had on April 23 recommended that Justice Rajesh Sekhri be appointed as an Additional Judge for a fresh term there being no vacancy of Permanent Judge against which he could be considered.
In terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, the Apex Court Collegium consulted those on its bench conversant with the affairs of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
A two-judge committee rated the quality of Justice Sekhri’s judgments as well-reasoned, containing an analysis of the facts of the cases and are backed by appropriate case laws.
After evaluating the material on record to assess the merit and suitability of the proposed appointment, the Supreme Court Collegium proceeded to recommend him for a fresh term with effect from July 29 this year.
It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Sekhri was appointed as Additional Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, vide Notification No.K-13021/01/2021-US-II dated 27th July 2022 and he took oath of office on 29th of July, 2022.
Born in Jammu, Sekhri did Matriculation from S D Sabha Higher Secondary School and Graduation from Government Gandhi Memorial Science College and LLB from University of Jammu in the year 1989. He passed KCS Judicial and joined as Munsiff in 1995. He was promoted as Sub-Judge in 1998 and as District and Sessions Judge in 2008.
He got Selection Grade in 2014 with effect from June 2013 and was placed in Super Time Scale in 2017. He served as CJM Rajouri and Kargil, Special Judge TADA/POTA Court Srinagar, Additional District Judge Anantnag, Additional District and Sessions Judge Jammu and Principal District Judge Reasi, Ramban and Baramulla. He also remained Special Judge Anti-Corruption CBI Cases.
