SC Collegium recommends elevation of Sanjay Parihar, Shahzad Azeem as Judges of J&K HC

JAMMU, Apr 16: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of two Senior Judicial Officers-Sanjay Parihar and Shahzad Azeem as Judges of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

“The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjiv Khanna, in its meeting held on April 16, 2025, has approved the proposal for appointment of Judicial Officers-Sanjay Parihar and Shahzad Azeem as Judges of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh”, read the statement issued by the Apex Court.
Sanjay Parihar is presently holding the post of Member J&K Special Tribunal, Jammu on deputation basis while as Shahzad Aseem is Registrar General of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh.
Born on December 19, 1968 in Palmar area of Kishtwar, Sanjay Parihar commenced his judicial career on December 1, 1997. Over the years, he has held several pivotal positions including serving as Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu. Notably, he was appointed as the Special Judge for Anti-Corruption (CBI cases) in Jammu where he presided over several high-profile cases. His extensive experience and commitment to justice have been instrumental in upholding the rule of law in the region.
Shahzad Azeem entered the judicial service on August 5, 2011 and has since demonstrated exemplary dedication. He has served as the Director of the J&K Judicial Academy and more recently as the Registrar General of the High Court. In his administrative capacities, he has played a crucial role in implementing judicial reforms and ensuring the efficient functioning of the court system.
At present, High Court of J&K and Ladakh has sanctioned strength of 25 Judges—19 Permanent Judges and 6 Additional Judges. However, the existing strength is 13 including Chief Justice and presently there is no Additional Judge. With the elevation of Judicial Officers recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, the existing strength will increase to 15.
