JAMMU, Jan 23: Former Minister J&K and president District Congress Committee (DCC) Jammu Urban, Yogesh Sawhney today visited Block 7, Jammu East, where he chaired an important organisational meeting aimed at restructuring the Congress Party at the grassroot level.
The meeting was presided over by Block president Chander Shekhar Sharma and was attended by several senior Congress leaders, ward presidents, and party workers including Pawan Dev Singh, Ram Magotra, Atul Sharma, Pawan Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Sohit Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Kelashpati Kapoor, Varinder Kumar, and others. The deliberations focused on strengthening the party organisation and preparing for upcoming agitations under the MGNREGA Bachao Sangram and Humari Riyasat, Humara Haq campaigns.
Addressing the gathering, Sawhney said that strengthening block and ward-level units is the cornerstone of rebuilding the Congress Party in Jammu Urban. He emphasised that a strong grassroots structure is essential to effectively raise public issues and counter anti-people policies. He urged party workers to stay closely connected with the masses and work with dedication, unity, and discipline to regain the trust of the people.
Speaking on the MGNREGA Bachao Sangram, Sawhney expressed serious concern over the dilution of the scheme, delay in wages, and denial of guaranteed employment to eligible workers. Describing MGNREGA as a lifeline for poor and marginalised families, he accused the BJP-led Government of weakening welfare programmes. He called upon Congress workers to mobilise people at the ward and mohalla levels and ensure strong participation in the upcoming protests.
Highlighting the Humari Riyasat, Humara Haq campaign, Sawhney stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being deprived of their constitutional, democratic, and economic rights. He also raised pressing local issues including frequent electricity cuts, lack of local employment opportunities for youth, rising prices, and overall neglect of basic civic amenities.
