SAMBA, June 14: Saviour of Kashmir Brig Rajinder Singh (MVC) was remembered at his native village Bagoona in district Samba on his 117th birthday today with great enthusiasm and spirit.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal was the chief guest while the function was held under the supervision of DDC Samba Sheetal Nanda. The guests of honour were Maj Gen Sanjeev Narayan, GOC Tiger Division, J&K Ex-services president Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Director Rajya Sainik Board Brig Harcharan Singh, Director Jammu Doordarshan Anjali Sharma and others.
The role of Martyr Brig Rajinder Singh was admired by one and all and he was revered as a standing stead-fast example of dutifulness, chivalry and supreme sacrifice after determined fight against very heavy odds. His sacrifice gained four valuable days for the Maharaja Hari Singh to sign the instrument of accession and get help of Indian Army which eventually could hold Kashmir from falling to the evil designs of recently created State of Pakistan.
The Brig Rajinder Singh Memorial Fauji Public School Patti presented a colourful entertainment programme highlighting the gallantry of the great warrior.
The programme was anchored by Ravi Kant meticulously. Both the Divisional Commissioner and the DDC Samba assured improvement of the area and promised to conduct this event as an annual feature regularly.
The J&K Freedom Fighters Association remembered Brig Rajinder Singh on his birthday at Bal Niketan, Ved Mandir, Ambphalla. The function was organized by Ved Gandotra, president JKFFA while Dr  Mohan Lal Meenia, ENT specialist was the chief guest.
Floral tributes were paid to the great martyr, who saved Kashmir from the aggression of Pakistani intruders in 1947, by showering petal on the photograph of Brig Rajinder Singh. They also remembered Netaji Subash Chander Bose, Chander Shekhar Azad, Maharani Laxmi Bai, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukh Dev, Rajguru, Ashfaq-ullah Khan, Mangal Pandey and Hav Abdul Hamid. Sweets were distributed among children who chanted National Anthem with National Flags in their hands.
Prominent persons present on the occasion were State president Shri Ram Sena Rajiv Mahajan, Parbhat Kapahi, Rajinder Singh, Ravinder Singh, Anita Gupta (AAP) and Sunita Sharma.
